what you need to know

What is an apostille translation?

If you’ve been told you need an “apostilled translation” for overseas use, here’s exactly what that means — and how we handle it all for you.
The apostille, explained simply
An apostille is an official government stamp that authenticates a UK document for use in countries that are part of the Hague Convention (120+ countries, including the US, EU, Australia, and India).

When your document is also in another language — or needs to be used abroad — it must first be translated by a certified translator, then the translation (or the original) is submitted to the FCDO for the apostille stamp.

We manage both steps: translation and apostille submission — so you only deal with one trusted provider.
Do you need this?
You likely need an apostille translation if you’re:

— Applying for citizenship, residency, or work permits abroad
— Presenting UK documents to a foreign embassy or authority
— Registering a marriage, birth, or legal document overseas
— Submitting academic or business records internationally

Not sure? We’ll tell you exactly what level of certification you need — free of charge, before you order.

Common questions

Questions we hear every day

Do I need to send original documents?

For translation, a clear scan or photo is usually sufficient. However, for apostille submission to the FCDO, physical originals are required for most documents (birth, marriage, death certificates, court documents). We’ll advise you on exactly what to send when you enquire.

Translation is typically completed within 24 hours. The FCDO apostille process then takes an additional 2–5 working days. We offer expedited services for urgent needs — same-day translation is available for orders placed before 2pm.
Our apostille translations are accepted in all 120+ countries that are party to the Hague Convention, including the USA, EU member states, Australia, UAE, India, and many more. If your destination country is not part of the Convention, we can advise on the legalisation process instead.
A certified translation includes a signed statement of accuracy — accepted by most UK authorities. A notarised translation has that statement confirmed by a Notary Public, often required by embassies and courts. An apostilled document has been authenticated by the FCDO for international recognition. We’ll help you identify exactly what’s needed for your specific purpose.
Our translations are prepared to meet the specific requirements of UK and international authorities. In the unlikely event of a rejection caused by our translation, we will reissue your translation at no charge. We also provide free guidance before you order to make sure you’re requesting the right service.
